Pembroke Center Archivist, Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women, Brown University, Providence, RI

The Pembroke Center Archivist is charged with supporting the missions of the Pembroke Center, the Feminist Theory Archive and Christine Dunlap Farnham Archive. The Feminist Theory Archive is a unique and still growing collection of over one hundred and thirty feminist scholars who have changed the intellectual landscape of universities and their disciplines in the United States and internationally. The Christine Dunlap Farnham Archive focuses on Brown/Pembroke and Rhode Island women and contains materials such as letters, diaries, papers, photographs, newspapers, and oral histories.

The day-to-day tasks of the archivist are to initiate, establish, and oversee relations with material donors and the Brown University Library, negotiate with scholars to secure commitments of materials to the FTA, direct the transfer of materials from donor to archives, sort, arrange and describe archival materials, create DACS-compliant EAD finding aids, and collaborate with subject librarians and the Center for Digital Scholarship. The archivist contributes to the scholarly activities and intellectual growth of Simmons College and URI library science students by serving as a trainer and mentor to graduate student interns who receive course credit for working in the archives. Other responsibilities include supervising student assistants, seeking and pursuing funding, outreach, volunteer, and collaboration opportunities. The archivist actively participates in the Pembroke Center’s fundraising efforts and events, collaborates with staff of the Brown University Library to maintain and expand the Christine Dunlap Farnham Archive, and directs the digitization and collection of oral histories with Brown alumnae.
