 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains working knowledge of the library print collections, online database resources, interlibrary loan availability, document delivery, and other resources as appropriate.  Shows proficiency in primary database usage, search strategy and syntax, and licensing restrictions.
  • Performs reference and research services including current awareness in legal, business, and other disciplines utilizing print and electronic resources.  Provides summary reports and analysis of research. Bills time to client/matters as appropriate.
  • Develops competitive business research product that will support the practice areas and business development of the firm. Provides an in-depth understanding and analysis of client and industry information.
  • Performs regular monitoring of news, dockets, legislative and regulatory changes, and other subject areas as needed.  Prepares related alerts and communications.
  • Supports the maintenance of the EOS catalog, and completes daily management of the Boston library resources including shelving, loose-leaf filing, and interlibrary loans.
  • Assists with maintaining the reference collection access points on the library intranet.
  • Provides needs-based and planned training to attorneys and staff.
  • Participates in library staff development sessions related to new print and digital reference resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Library Services.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A degree from an accredited post-secondary institution is required; a Master’s Degree in Library Science preferred.  
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in conducting legal and business research in a law firm information services setting is required.
  • Expertise conducting research in legal and business research tools such as LEXIS, WESTLAW, RIA, BNA, CCH, BLAW, etc.
  • An ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated, be a team player, thrive in a fast-paced environment, have strong research skills, and exhibit an aptitude for finding insightful data to answer key questions.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills, a professional, service-oriented demeanor, and an innovative mind-set.
