Library Assistant, Helen Temple Cooke Library, Wellesley, MA

The Helen Temple Cooke Library is a complete information resource center designed to serve the students, faculty and staff of Dana Hall School, an independent boarding/day school that enrolls 465 girls in grades 6-12. Its primary goals are to support the diverse academic curriculum, to meet a wide range of student interests and abilities, to develop the skills and self-confidence of students so they can operate effectively in any library, to provide a comfortable and caring atmosphere for individual and group study, and to foster a lifelong appreciation of reading, viewing, and listening as sources of pleasure and personal growth. The Helen Temple Cooke Library strives to provide the best in contemporary information literacy instruction, research services, technologies, and materials, both digital and physical.  Our goal is always to support the changing and growing needs of our community.  

The position is for January to June with an anticipated start date of January 4th, 2016.  This is a three-quarter-time position (30hr/week), covering school evenings and Sundays. Hours are approximated to be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 4:30-9:45pm, Wednesday from 3:30-9:45pm, and Sunday from 12-8pm.  The position is on a team that includes three professional librarians, an archivist, and a team of student library pages, and reports to the Library Director. The ideal candidate will be creative, cheerful, energetic, flexible, and collegial.  He or she should be comfortable with rapidly changing technologies and have experience providing library services to young people. 

 

Qualifications:

– Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with teenagers and adults in a busy environment.

– Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as a strong sense of organization and detail.

– Experience with library management software, technology, reference, and citation.

– Experience conducting reference interviews and readers advisory.

– Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, iPads, social media applications.

– A love of literature and excitement about libraries!

– Bachelor’s degree, as well as preferably an MLS degree, or working towards an MLS degree.
