Rhode Island Council for the Humanities (RICH) seeks a Digital Storytelling & Archive Intern to develop the Council’s grants archive and Digital Library and create digital storytelling and communications pieces in order to showcase and provide greater access to the Council’s 40+ years of supporting the humanities.

The mission of the Council is to seed, support, and strengthen public history, cultural heritage, civic education, and community engagement by and for all Rhode Islanders.

The Digital Storytelling & Archive Intern will support efforts to trace thematic threads through the Humanities Council’s 40+ years of granting history in order to create an online exhibit for the Council’s Digital Library and communicate the Council’s impact in key historical/cultural/civic areas. The project aims to open access to and broaden the reach of the Council’s vast resources showcasing Rhode Island’s culture and stories, humanities research, and humanities tools and methods that can be utilized as models today. The Digital Storytelling & Archive Intern will also help create new grants features for web and social media platforms. This position reports to the Development & Communications Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research and create online exhibits for the Council’s Digital Library
  • Accurately record and file the Archive’s accessions
  • Research and apply best practices in digital storytelling to showcase the humanities in Rhode Island
  • Create social media posts promoting the digital archive and various grantee productions
  • Develop strategies and tools for enhancing the Council’s media relationships

Position Requirements:

  • Technical literacy: Mac OS X, Microsoft Office, social media (Facebook, Twitter), WordPress
  • Archival research, familiarity with Dublin Core Metadata standards and Omeka.net platform (training could be made available)
  • Basic design/editing (Photoshop or Adobe InDesign)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collegially in a team setting
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Interest in the humanities fields and nonprofit organizations
