Wellesley College is hiring an experienced, enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, and service-oriented Assistant Director for Research Services to join our dynamic Library and Technology Services (LTS) group. This position organizes and delivers research and instruction services and initiatives to Wellesley College students, faculty, staff and other constituencies engaged in the academic work of the College.

The Assistant Director for Research Services provides leadership and direction for the Research Services team staff (5); establishes the recommended direction and path of Wellesley’s library research services strategy; develops, directs and manages services and programs which foster information literacy and curricular innovation; and supports the College’s educational and research missions through the promotion of information resources and tools. This position participates in the work of the group and supports the U.S. Government’s Federal Depository Library Program.

As a part of the leadership team for our deeply merged Research and Instructional Support group, this position ensures coordination of research and instruction services with our Instructional Technology, Public Services, Blended and Online Learning, Digital Scholarship, and Learning Spaces teams. Close partnerships with Research and Instructional Support teammates, Collections Librarians, the faculty, and other LTS staff ensure cohesive planning and support for the College’s academic work and our students’ success.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications include

  • Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or other relevant advanced degree
  • Relevant subject degree
  • 5-8 years relevant experience in an education or information services-related field
  • Broad knowledge of specific disciplinary literatures and their access tools
  • Demonstrated skill in conducting reference interviews, searching, and public services
  • Significant instruction experience, including evidence of successful curriculum development, and the ability to teach a wide range of individuals in a variety of formats
  • Previous management of medium/large information resources and/or technology projects
  • Previous experience leading/managing staff
  • Work in a higher-ed environment

Qualified candidates are able to work independently and in a team within a culturally diverse environment; are aware of new technologies and trends and their application in meeting teaching, learning and research needs; and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred qualifications include

  • Advanced degree in relevant subject area
  • Subject area knowledge and/or strong evidence of previous support for Social Science disciplines including Economics
  • Liaison-related experience in a higher education environment
  • Previous leadership or participation in instructional technology, library policy and/or library access projects

 and the following experience

  • Work in a merged library/technology environment
  • Support for common social science resources such as IPUMS, ICPSR, or other statistical databases
  • Partnerships with faculty in the creation of assignments, instruction and curricula
  • Work with and/or support for one or more technologies in use at Wellesley (e.g. LibGuides, Drupal, EndNote, Zotero)
  • Support for a Government Documents program
  • Assessment of programs and services, and implementation of data-driven decisions
