DESCRIPTION

​The Digital Services Librarian works in a team-based environment with the other librarians, providing leadership for system-wide, technology-based services, initiatives and projects. The Digital Services Librarian is responsible for special collections and will establish the framework of the JU library digital collections and archives. Best candidates will be familiar with digital project management coordination, materials assessment, content standards, bibliographic standards, RDA, grant writing, scanning and digital photography.

QUALIFICATIONS

Prerequisites Required for Position:

  1. Minimum Education Requirement: Broad undergraduate education; master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  2. Minimum Work Experience: Two years of professional work experience. Applicants must have advanced knowledge of computers and software. Prior experience in special collections with digital management systems, content standards, and digital materials workflow strongly preferred.
  3. Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of teaching experience.

  • Ability to use a computer and Microsoft applications; HTML, Libguides, CONTENTdm, social media, customer service oriented; teaching skills; thoroughness and skilled with the attention to details; good writing skills; demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users. Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude towards co-workers, JU community and job duties.

Work Conditions:

  • Primarily indoor office environment.
  • Standard Library coverage hours.
  • Some night or weekend hours.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Must be able to use a computer keyboard and other office machines.
  • Must have vision to read in print and on screen.
  • Must have hearing to communicate in person and on the phone.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Evaluates the current special collections that consist of: JU archives, treasure collection, Delius collection, Corse files, student capstone projects, and government documents. Establish goals and the best approach to cataloging standards for archives and digital collections.
  • Recommends and maintains digital imaging equipment, file uploads, administers CONTENTdm, and sets up an institutional repository.
  • Creation of webpages, web content, outreach materials, and exhibits promoting the collections.
  • Actively participates as a library liaison for acquisition of materials; active library instruction; and provides specialized information services. Attends campus committee meetings, submit reports, and undertake special projects. Communicates and solicits input from faculty.
  • Designs, deploys, and maintains library LibGuides and links to relevant database subscription and Internet resources. Works with other librarians to develop intuitive, user-friendly library web pages and social media content.
  • Administrates OCLC WorldShare Management Services (WMS) and all related services, knowledgebase, acquisitions, vendors, and configurations related to special collections. Maintain, monitors and update records with content standards or metadata in knowledgebase, link resolver, and EZproxy administration.
  • Provides traditional and online reference services to students, faculty, and staff to help meet information and research needs in all available formats. Shares in providing reference services on scheduled nights and weekends with other librarians.
  • Keeps current with advances in technology.
  • Participate in the development of library-wide policies, grant writing, intern coordination, collection development, special projects, procedures, and goals.
  • Maintains appropriate statistics; prepares regular and ad hoc reports as required.
