ODEGAARD UNDERGRADUATE LIBRARY

The Odegaard Undergraduate Library is one of the largest undergraduate libraries in the country. Built on the vision of Charles Odegaard, former president of the University of Washington (1958-1973), the undergraduate library was completed in 1972 to be the primary center on campus for undergraduate learning and research. Today it is a place of strong community and collaboration for teaching, and a rich learning environment for students and faculty. The library was recently renovated to include two new active learning classrooms, innovative team spaces, and a combined writing and research center. The renovation was awarded the 2014 American Institute of Architects Institute Honor Awards for Interior Architecture. The library serves over 1.5 million visitors every year, most of those from among the 28,000+ undergraduate students on the Seattle campus. The library is open seven days a week and operates 24/5 Sunday through Thursday. There are ten librarians and eleven classified staff in Odegaard, in addition to graduate student staff and other student support staff.
