Slippery Rock University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty position beginning Fall 2016. This position will report to the Associate Provost for Transformational Experiences.
The STEM and Electronic Access Librarian serves as the instructional consultant and liaison to academic departments in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), selecting appropriate resources to support these disciplines and providing library classroom and individualized instruction. This position also fulfills the duties of the Electronic Access Librarian, teaches INDS 210: Library Research Methods and participates in the research services rotation.
STEM Responsibilities:
Serves as subject specialist to support student learning in Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Geology & the Environment, Mathematics and Physics; in collaboration with STEM department faculty, designs and presents instructional sessions to assist students in the effective use of library resources; provides individual instruction in the use of library resources as appropriate; develops and maintains library support for new and existing STEM programs, including program review and accreditation; assesses, develops and maintains library collections in all formats for subject specialty areas, and monitors expenditures for materials in these areas; integrates information competencies throughout the academic process by maintaining subject web pages and/or research guides and tutorials as appropriate.
Electronic Access Responsibilities:
Troubleshoots electronic access issues, coordinating with database providers, vendors, publishers, consortium partners and university personnel to resolve problems; manages subscribed content changes and content access alternatives to preempt resource access problems; updates and maintains library technologies that support patron access including the electronic resource management system, link resolver and discovery service; participates in consortial initiatives for implementation and configuration of research tools and services; works collaboratively with the Resource Acquisitions Librarian to ensure continuity in the lifecycle of electronic resources; maintains awareness of trends and developments in electronic resource management and access.
INDS 210
Develops course content and teaches INDS 210: Library Research Methods, a three-credit course focused on research skills in STEM subject areas.
Other Responsibilities:
Participates in the research services rotation, including evenings and weekends; serves on library and university-wide committees, as appropriate; pursues an active and ongoing program of professional development, research and service appropriate to the current university rank attained; meets other requirements for tenure and promotion as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Other responsibilities as assigned that fulfill the mission of the library and the university.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent; minimum of an undergraduate degree in a STEM-related subject OR minimum of five years as a science or STEM librarian; minimum of two years of professional academic or special library experience; demonstrated effective teaching skills; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students, faculty, staff and general library users; knowledge of library trends, methods and best practices for electronic access; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in multiple formats to diverse audiences; proven ability to balance multiple projects and set priorities; perceived ability to meet the academic and scholarly requirements for tenure.
Successful completion of an on-campus interview, including a presentation on a topic to be determined by the search committee.

Preferred Qualifications: Degree in the natural sciences, physical sciences or petroleum and natural gas engineering; demonstrated innovation in science instruction; experience with library technologies that support patron access to library resources; demonstrated experience in electronic resource management and access; familiarity with electronic and traditional reference resources and trends; collection development skills; successful grant writing experience.
