Director, Public Services–contribute to an award-winning, growing Indianapolis Public Library (http://www.imcpl.org/)  that celebrates its community through innovation, diversity, creativity, and impact.  Serving as a member of the Library’s Executive team, the successful candidate will be a strategic, collaborative thinker, have creative ideas and planning skills, experience and interest in facilities expansion, and strong leadership experience. The Director, Public Services will be valued for change management, a knowledge of current industry trends, and the skills to coach, mentor, and work with a strong professional team of six direct reports. Supporting and implementing the Library’s focused, robust 2015-2020 Strategic Plan will be a vital component of the position.

The Indianapolis Public Library is an exciting work environment–as an independent library district with a permanent tax rate exclusively dedicated to public library services–the Library staff (358 FTEs) and almost 500 volunteers serve the 800,000+ citizens of Indianapolis and Marion County through 23 locations, including the stunning Central Library, the Children’s Museum’s InfoZone, and an active Outreach department. Named a Four-Star library by Library Journal for the past three years, the Library celebrated  4.2 million patron visits and a  15.9 million circulation in 2014. The Library has a $57 million annual budget with 11+ million dedicated to public services.

Responsibilities: The Director, Public Services will be responsible for the public service area’s strategic planning, alignment and access of library services to the residents of Marion County. The Public Services area includes the Central Library, 22 branch libraries, Outreach and Programming. In addition to serving on the Library’s Executive Team, the Director, Public Services also functions as a Board Committee Liaison. Other responsibilities include: analyzing community needs and expanding community access, collaborating on development of strategic and geographic plans for facilities development, developing and monitoring the Public Services budget, seeking and developing community connections, participating in Indianapolis in a civic capacity, and leadership and management of the Public Services staff. Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include an ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science, the ability to obtain and retain an Indiana Librarian Certificate II, and a minimum of five years of professional experience in a senior management role in a multi-branch system. Preferred qualifications include: planning, leading and directing strategic organizational change experience, developing and implementing policy experience, and developing and monitoring budgets experience.

Compensation: The hiring salary range is $ $80,833 – $118,016 with a competitive benefits package.
