Curry College is accepting applications for a full-time, 12-Month Library Director. The Library Director provides vision, leadership and support for the faculty and staff in the library, and works with college leadership to develop, implement and evaluate programs, resources and services that advance the college’s mission.  These include the development of library technology goals that integrate with the College’s academic and information technology efforts and the promotion of information literacy programs and standards. The Director will continue to oversee the development and delivery of traditional and digital library services and resources (e.g., reference and instruction; circulation and access services; collection, serials and electronic resource management; systems and technical services), and effectively manage library operations.

The Director is a member of the faculty and is an academic department head with direct responsibility for 13 FTE faculty and staff and more than 30 student workers. The Director is an ex-officio member of the Library and Information Resources Committee and will be expected to serve on other committees and task forces.

The ideal candidate will be an academic leader and an energetic library advocate committed to helping Curry create an outstanding College library.  The Library Director will facilitate shared understanding and shared decision-making with library faculty and staff, and be experienced in current and emerging library/information technology, IT development and project implementation in an academic setting. This candidate will have considerable familiarity with reference, instruction, collection development practice, and technical services, and will hold service delivery as a high priority.  Additional critical attributes include: excellent communication, project management, and financial management skills; strong support of professional and staff development; knowledge of issues and practices relating to distance education and hybrid learning.

Experience integrating information literacy learning outcomes into the curriculum is key, as Curry College is implementing a new General Education curriculum in Fall 2015 and library opportunities in this curriculum will expand.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing, implementing and assessing long-range and strategic plans and programs for library services to advance the College’s mission
  • Taking a leadership role in identifying relevant information technologies  and in working with administrators and faculty to shape policies and programs to utilize those technologies
  • Participating actively in College affairs in order to align library programs with institutional goals, and working to integrate library resources and instruction, including information literacy and assessment, into the curriculum
  • Advocating for the continuing development of the library with administration and external partners
  • Administering library operations, including budget preparation, assessment of user services and resources, and personnel management
  • Maintaining and further developing quality library services in a setting with established history of programs for learning disabled, non-traditional, and continuing education students

Qualifications:

An MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution; a minimum of 3 years of progressively relevant academic library experience; a record of progressively responsible academic library experience, with budgeting, management and planning successes and learning outcomes; evidence of leadership in an academic library setting; evidence of substantial, collaborative work with faculty; experience with and understanding of technologies, current and emerging, which are relevant to academic libraries; record of academic achievement commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor; evidence of successful advocacy for library initiatives; evidence of ability to work successfully with a broad variety of constituents: administrators, faculty, IT staff, and students; evidence of participation in professional activities and continued professional development; evidence of fundraising/successful grant writing experience is desirable.
