Content Implementation Manager, Cengage Learning, Boston, MA

Cengage Learning has an exciting opportunity for a Content Implementation Manager, located in our Boston office.

The ideal candidate will:

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with Product Managers and Software Developers to ensure content supports product features.
  • Coordinating implementation of content requirements.
  • Explaining content and metadata structures to application developers.
  • Aligning content deliverables with software development schedules.
  • Developing and maintaining standard content workflows in order to rapidly scale digital product models.
  • Troubleshooting and organizing the resolution of content bugs.
  • Recognizing what is needed to achieve company goals and coordinating with different departments to ensure those goals are met.

Basic Qualifications Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree, or a minimum of three years equivalent experience working as a Content Engineer.
  • Experience working with structured data formats such as XML, XHTML, JSON, HTML5.
  • Knowledge of information retrieval concepts and practices, large scale relational databases, and content management concepts and techniques.
  • Basic understanding of programming languages such as Python, PERL, XSLT, XQuery, or Java.
  • Ability to design and execute structured analysis.
  • Understanding of how to use metadata to support information retrieval.
  • Experience working with JIRA or a comparable bug tracking tool.
  • Leadership, facilitation, problem-solving, organization, and planning skills.
  • Effective and clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Experience building alignment and facilitating harmony across and within cross-functional project teams.
  • Successfully collaborated to implement a product from early stages to completion. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with agile development processes and recurring release cycles.
  • Experience automating content conversion from one format to another using XSLT or similar scripting language.
  • Knowledge of public standards like W3C, DAISY, EPUB 3, etc.
  • Experience with Cengage Learning’s products, editorial policies, processes, markets, or competitors’ products.
