Systems and Discovery Librarian, University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS

The University of Kansas Medical Center, A. R. Dykes Library of the Health Sciences is seeking a Systems and Discovery Librarian. This position leads the strategic direction, implementation and ongoing management of library technology. The successful candidate will support exiting library technologies and lead configuration, integration and maintenance of systems and discovery solutions.  A key role will be to provide leadership with informed decisions about future systems solutions. Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent academic library experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment.
  • Aptitude for critical thinking. 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills as exhibited in application and interviews. 
  • Experience with integrated library systems and discovery services (current systems are Serials Solutions, VuFind, and Voyager). 
  • Familiarity with digitization of information, metadata, networking, computer programing. 
  • Experience working with standard library data structures such as MARC, METS, RDF, and OpenURL. 
  • Experience with scripting languages as well as XSLT, XML, Javascript, and JSON. 
  • Evidence of project management. 
  • Ability to manage change and to think innovatively and creatively. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in selection and implementation of integrated library systems. 
  • Experience in administrating and implementing scholarly repository systems. 
  • Education or other background in the biomedical sciences or IT. 
  • Experience with relational databases and writing SQL queries. 
  • Experience in cataloging and/or indexing utilizing MESH terms, USMLE, and/or Dublin Core.
