Technical Services Librarian, Cape Cod Community College, West Barnstable, MA

Reports to the Dean of Teaching & Learning Resources and Technology.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Technical Services Librarian coordinates all technical services functions including acquisitions, cataloging and metadata services, collection development and electronic resources management. The Technical Services Librarian also provides general reference assistance and participates in information literacy instruction. The ideal applicant will combine technical skills with flexibility, a user-centered outlook, enthusiasm for assessing and implementing new technologies to promote student success, and the ability to effectively work both individually and in a genuinely collaborative environment. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. Provides leadership and direction for technical services functions: acquisitions, cataloging and metadata services, collection and electronic resources management.
  2. Represents the library’s interests with vendors, publishers and other information providers; communicates and negotiates with information providers regarding licenses and subscriptions.
  3. Manages electronic resources in the Library collection; evaluates, recommends and implements appropriate new library technologies; and supports and collaborates with faculty in the use of open educational resources (OER).
  4. Coordinates participation and membership responsibilities in the CLAMS integrated library system.
  5. Assigns cataloging and metadata to physical and digital resources, maintains cataloging information in the CLAMS integrated library system.
  6. Supervises and evaluates support staff. 
  7. Provides instruction in information literacy skills; consults with faculty on information literacy curricula.
  8. Provides general reference assistance and instruction to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons using print, multimedia and digital resources. Provides assistance to users on basic computer skills.
  9. Provides information and referral to additional resources on the CCCC campus and in the community.
  10. Participates in collection development in assigned subject areas, consulting with faculty as needed.
  11. Participates in the development and maintenance of Library web pages.
  12. Keeps current in library and information trends, participates in professional development activities, and works with various consortia.
  13. Serves on College and consortia committees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s degree in library and information studies (MLS) from an ALA accredited library school.
  2. Library experience, preferably in technical services.
  3. Current knowledge of trends, developments and best practices in library technical services such as electronic resource management, discovery platforms, RDA, integrated library systems, etc.
  4. Broad understanding of academic subjects and domains; excellent working knowledge of print and digital academic information resources.
  5. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to work successfully with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff in a busy, multicultural environment.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Academic library experience.
  2. Experience teaching information literacy.
  3. Experience with course management applications.
  4. Experience with open educational resources (OER).
  5. Experience in web page development and maintenance.
  6. Bi- or multilingual.
  7. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience, an appreciation for, and are committed to working in a diverse, global, multicultural academic setting.

COMPENSATION: MCCC Unit position classified as Technical Services Librarian (Grade 5) with minimum salary of $52,564.00; actual salary will be dependent upon education and experience, determined by a contractual formula-based classification system. Full-time position includes participation in comprehensive employee benefits program.
