Electronic Resources Librarian, Hope College, Holland, MI

The Electronic Resource Librarian will provide leadership and a strategic vision for connecting electronic collections to our user population and is responsible for managing all aspects of the life cycle of electronic resources including acquisition, licensing, cataloging, access, discovery, assessment, and problem resolution. This position, reporting to the Head of Systems and Technical Services, will play an integral role in the evolution, development, and implementation of new strategies relating to electronic collections and the user experience and is ultimately responsible for resolving all e-resource access concerns that are reported by library staff and users. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manages a wide range of library electronic resources including research databases, e-journals, e-books, and reference sources
  • Manages electronic resources budgets
  • Ensures accurate and reliable access to library electronic resources using the Serials Solutions knowledge base and link resolver, proxy server authentication software, the Innovative Interfaces Inc. Sierra integrated library system, and other systems
  • Arranges for trials and demonstrations of electronic resources and coordinates discussion of collection development for online journal packages and e-books
  • Maintains e-resource management records to track vendor contacts, licensing and subscription information
  • Provides technical support to troubleshoot and resolve access issues for the library’s e-resources
  • Communicates with vendors, college IT, and library staff regarding electronic resource technical issues
  • Works with Library Systems Associate to ensure that electronic resources are accessible and seamlessly integrated into the Library web site
  • Compiles, analyzes and reports e-resource usage statistics in support of collection development decision making and library assessment activities
  • Maintains documentation of e-resource workflow, policies and procedures
  • Stays abreast of best practices and emerging developments in the management of e-resources, trends in scholarly communication and licensing trends and shares knowledge with staff
  • Serves as the lead person for print and electronic serials and directs the workflows of serials staff
  • Participates in college governance and serves on committees and boards as needed
  • Serves as liaison to assigned departments and participates in print and electronic collection development
  • Assists Research and Instruction Librarians in reference desk shifts as needed

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in library and information science
  • Demonstrated successful experience in electronic resource management
  • Experience with an integrated library system including acquisitions, and/or ERM
  • Knowledge of electronic resource licensing
  • Knowledge of e-resource management trends and practices
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative and collegial working relationships with library staff, vendors and college technical support
  • Meets the College’s requirements for faculty librarian promotion, which includes commitment to professional activity and service
