Reference Librarian, Belmont Public Library, Belmont, MA

Duties/Description: Performs a variety of duties in providing assistance to patrons in the use of library resources, online catalog, databases, the internet, Overdrive, personal devices, etc.

Responsible for technology instruction, both one-on-one and with groups of patrons. Supports our Technology Librarian managing several tasks, which may include website maintenance, daily updates, and troubleshooting equipment. Compiles and organizes database statistics.

Responsible for managing our Local History Collection. Major focuses on management of digitization projects, Belmont author collection, microfilm collection/machines, and transformation of balcony storage area, finishing a process of re-organizing the local history collections for public enjoyment.

Leads a book group and assists in collection development and reader’s advisory. Participates in the promotion of programs and library services via flyers, bookmarks, handouts, and posters, both in print and digital format. Graphic design experience welcomed. Experience with Adobe illustrator, Microsoft Publisher, InDesign, or similar software preferred

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited school with one year of reference and public library experience or equivalent. Knowledge of principles and practices of library work and use of resources and information technology. Excellent technology and communication skills highly desired. Experience with Sierra preferred. Must be committed to providing a high level of public service to patrons.

Salary: This position is full time, 35 hours per week, with a starting hourly rate of $26.49, including benefits.
