Library/Technology Assistant, Pearl K. Wise Library, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, Cambridge, MA

Role and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the School Library Media Specialist(s) and the Director of Libraries, the Library and Technology Assistant is responsible for performing clerical and technical tasks as well as positively interacting with students, faculty, and staff to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of information and technology services in an active, technology-rich high school library. As library program needs modify and change over time, the Library Information and Technology Assistant will respond to these changes by being flexible and assume emerging clerical or technical responsibilities as needed.

Library Operations:

  • Monitors arrival and departure of scheduled classes
  • Monitors arrival and departure of students on passes
  • Checks-in and supervises students during lunch periods
  • Manages circulation of books and equipment
  • Shelves books
  • Assists students and staff in locating library resources
  • Uses library automation system to do copy-cataloging
  • Processes new acquisitions and weeded materials
  • Maintains an orderly and attractive environment
  • Performs general clerical duties
  • Creates/Updates bibliographies, displays and library communications
  • Supports Library Media Specialists as requested

Technology Support:

  • Assists students and staff in accessing and using library website, online catalog, databases, and other e-resources (EasyBib, audiobooks, ebooks, etc.)
  • Troubleshoots student and staff issues involving student network accounts, First Class email, Google Drive (Docs, Forms, Sheets, etc.), productivity tools and other applications.
  • Maintains technology devices for ready access
  • Generates data and reports using library automation system
  • Sets up /takes down media and presentation equipment for special events

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA degree preferred; High level of organization and collaborative skills; Experience working successfully with a very diverse population of high school students; Fluency in multiple operating platforms, the Internet and online database usage;
  • Interest in and ability to learn new technologies; Ability to multi-task and work well as a team member; Familiarity with automated circulation; Understanding of library materials organization and shelving procedures; Experience in libraries or
  • interest in librarianship as a career highly desirable.
