Position Summary:

The Henry Madden Library seeks a creative, flexible and public service oriented individual to join our faculty in developing and providing user­focused library services that support teaching, research, and student success. This full­time, tenure­track librarian will serve as liaison to the Kremen School of Education and Human Development including the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, the Graduate Studies Program and will lead efforts to support and improve graduate student success. In addition, library faculty are expected to engage in scholarship and service to the University and the profession. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to explore a variety of directions for professional growth and development.

Primary responsibilities include: collaborating with colleagues in the development and provision of a broad range of activities to outreach and engage designated colleges and departments; teaching information literacy concepts to undergraduates and graduate students; designing and preparing outreach and instructional materials; providing in person and online research assistance in a range of disciplines; participating in faculty governance, committees, library initiatives and ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

Overview:

The Henry Madden Library, staffed by over 72 professionals and paraprofessionals, serves a diverse community of over 23,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate level. The Library is the center of campus life at Fresno State, and underwent an extensive $105 million dollar renovation in 2009. The Library contains over 1.4 million print volumes and subscribes to over 260 databases and electronic resource packages. The Library utilizes a liaison structure, with librarians providing instruction, collection development, and reference services to designated colleges. Additionally, the Library connects with the wider Fresno and Central Valley communities through a variety of outreach efforts.

Required Education:

An MLS from an ALA accredited library school/institution (or equivalent) is required.

Required Experience:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, information literacy and instruction, student learning outcomes, and active learning;
  2. Experience with design and delivery of instruction using traditional classroom methods and current/emerging technologies;
  3. Documentation of strong public service orientation and proficiency in all modes of reference service and research consultation with diverse user groups, and; 4) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience working in an academic library environment;
  2. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working both collaboratively and independently in a complex, constantly changing environment;
  3. Graduate degree or significant coursework completed in the field of Education;
  4. Experience with outreach programs and services, and; 5) Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

Background Check:
