Public Services Coordinator, New England College of Optometry Library, Boston, MA

The New England College of Optometry (NECO) Library is seeking a Public Services Coordinator. This is a full-time (35 hours/week) non-exempt position. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and efficient, and works well in a team setting.

Summary:

The Public Services Coordinator manages the circulation of materials; oversees, manages, and processes interlibrary loan (ILL) and document delivery requests; and provides reference and information assistance to patrons at the NECO Library. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Library Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the efficient circulation of materials: run daily, weekly, and monthly automated circulation reports, produce and distribute overdue/fine notices, and maintain the circulation manual.
  • Each term, work with and back up the Library Assistant to request and organize course reserve materials and prepare them for circulation.
  • Receive, verify and transmit interlibrary loan and document delivery requests from multiple sources (NECO ILL account, Docline, OCLC, call slips, and Commonwealth Catalog) and oversee in-house photocopying and scanning. Maintain statistics using automated reporting program. Facilitate the efficient, cost effective delivery of materials. Manage monthly EFTS billing and ensure ILL copyright compliance. Serve as ILL liaison to other libraries. Represent the Library on the Fenway Libraries Online (FLO) Circulation/Document Delivery and Public Services Committees.
  • Provide reference services for patrons, including literature searches for faculty. Collaborate with fellow staff members on complex requests. Prepare biweekly email alert of relevant grants available for research faculty.
  • With the Library Assistant, maintain collections in good order, ensuring that books are shelved properly and promptly. Collaborate with Library Assistant on training and supervising student aides.
  • Oversee care and maintenance of equipment such as photocopiers, audiovisual equipment, etc., and maintain orderly public service areas. Order and maintain inventory of office supplies.
  • Perform copy cataloging as necessary, and oversee print collection material preparation and repair.
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Director, and often in partnership with the FLO consortium, collaborate to develop and implement policies and procedures related to circulation, collection maintenance, reserves, and interlibrary loan.
  • Take part in team projects and perform other related duties in collaboration with Library staff.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least one year of experience in a library setting.
  • Experience in an academic library is desired.
  • Experience with interlibrary loan systems and processes is desired.
  • Mature, dependable and reliable work ethic is a must!

Hours:

Monday — Friday, 8am — 4pm.

Hours may vary during summer and academic breaks, as well as during reading and exam periods.
