Public Services Coordinator for Special Collections, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC

J. Y. Joyner Library at East Carolina University (ECU) seeks an experienced, collaborative, and enthusiastic individual to lead and manage public and instructional services for the Special Collections Division at Joyner Library. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Special Collections, the position will be responsible for managing a consolidated research and instruction services program for the Special Collections Division which includes Manuscripts and Rare Books, the North Carolina Collection, University Archives, and Digital Collections. The position is also responsible for leading efforts to encourage expanded use of special collections by faculty, undergraduates, and graduate students at ECU.

Responsibilities:

  • provide leadership and administration for research and reference services, instruction and program planning
  • serve as primary liaison to faculty for instruction services and consult regularly with faculty to ensure that services meet their evolving needs
  • participate in the design and delivery of research and instructional services, including reference provision, classroom instruction, email and online chat services
  • coordinate Special Collection public programs to highlight the collections and services of the division
  • participate in the planning and promotion of print and digital collections
  • manage the Rhem/Schwarzmann Prize for student research in special collections

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited Master’s Degree or international equivalent in library or information science
  • Minimum of three years experience providing reference and instruction services in an academic or archival setting
  • Experience working in or using special collections
  • Strong commitment to excellence in public service and improving the user experience
  • Knowledge of online instructional tools, resources, and services
  • Commitment to utilizing emerging technologies to improve teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated initiative in developing and implementing instructional resources and services
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with ECU staff and users

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a discipline relevant to the collection’s strengths such as history, science, or literature
  • Additional graduate degree
