Research Information Specialist II, St. Gobain, Northboro, MA

The incumbent provides expert advice, problem solving, and implementation services to support technical projects and business objectives by providing detailed research documentation on information resources and development of information systems to support information delivery and utilization.

60% Custom Information Services: 
Directly provide research services to internal customers. Typical projects require the development of medium- to long-term relationships with the business and research groups. Assignments include complex technical questions requiring strong technical background, detailed understanding of the businesses, technologies, and objectives. The incumbent functions as an adjunct member of the team and is responsible for investigating, synthesizing, and delivering internal and external information to solve specific technical problems and to inform the direction of the project.

10% Systems planning/Design/Implementation: 
Works with the team to identity, evaluate, select and implement systems and methods for information search, management and delivery. This includes training and presentations on these systems.

20% Current Awareness Services: 
Develops and maintains systems, work methods, and schedules to provide highly focused and high quality current awareness services in businesses, technologies, and intellectual property areas of interest to the Company.

10% Operational Support: 
Oversees and contributes to various operational services of the information center. This includes organizing, leading, and overseeing processes such as internal report management, training and orientation sessions, and resource evaluation.

Additional Responsibilities:
Actively promotes the creation and refreshing of a grassroots proactive culture of safety by personal example and by encouraging, empowering, and involving all staff in safety.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • We seek candidates with a technical subject specialty, a passion for information services, and enthusiasm for contributing that expertise to fellow engineers and scientists.
  • Candidates must have either a B.S. Degree in Engineering or the Physical Sciences (preferably Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry) with 3 years of experience in an R&D, scientific or manufacturing environment; or a B.S. Degree with M.L.S. or MBA; or an M.S., Degree or PhD in Engineering or the Physical Sciences (preferably Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry).
  • Demonstrated experience in comprehension of concepts and technologies from engineering and physical science disciplines is required. 
  • Qualified candidates will have a highly proactive working style and the ability to interact successfully with a wide range of personalities. The position requires a strong focus on customer service, passion for delivering excellent results, and a willingness to engage directly in R&D projects.
