General Position Description:
The Market Intelligence (MI) team acts as the eyes and ears for athenahealth on the market. We help leadership as well as account-facing teams to better understand the needs of our constituents and to capitalize on opportunities to grow the business, build trust and earn credibility with key decision makers.

The MI Sr. Associate or Associate will be responsible for researching care delivery organizations, preparing briefing materials for athena representatives attending internal and external events and fielding ad hoc requests from sales and account management for research. S/he will collect, structure, analyze and concisely communicate key strategic information on individuals and organizations using internal and external resources.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating world-class, comprehensive intelligence packages detailing the strategic, operational and financial models of health systems, hospitals and other care delivery organizations nationwide. Intelligence packages will advise market-facing teams and include:
    • SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats)
    • Financial analysis (examination of growth, profitability, cash flow, liquidity and credit strength)
    • Geographic/market trends
    • Competitive analysis
    • Leadership team profiles and organizational charts
  • Optimizing use of internal and external sources that include Salesforce CRM, Moody’s Analytics, HealthLeaders, The Advisory Board Company, ThomsonOne, Pitchbook, Electronic Municipal Market Access (EMMA) and RelSci; and
  • Communicating research findings and distributing written materials in a standardized format.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Sound judgment in prioritizing deliverables with limited oversight;
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort with ambiguity;
  • Fluency with external financial and industry sources such as ThomsonOne, SEC filings, etc.;
  • Expertise in MSFT Office (esp. Excel and PowerPoint) and experience with SharePoint and Salesforce preferred.

 Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree (in Library Science or Intelligence) preferred;
  • At least 2 years of professional experience;
  • Experience in market intelligence/industry research/financial analysis;
  • Foundational knowledge of the U.S. health care marketplace preferred.
