Job Description

We’re looking for a Technical Services Assistant to work in our Research and Library Services Department in our Washington, DC office! The Technical Services Assistant will be responsible for ordering and processing library and attorney desk books resources, assuring order fulfillment and resolving issues associated with discrepancies in shipping and invoicing, and preparing payment requests for RLS materials and maintains records of serial receipts in the integrated library system. They are responsible for local interlibrary loan services and record keeping. In addition, they are responsible for obtaining passwords for electronic research services, preparing RLS orientation materials for new and lateral hires, and maintaining records in the integrated library system.

The Legal Recruitment Assistant will focus on:

  • Maintaining subscription and desk book records by adding appropriate item records to the integrated library system.
  • Ordering, processing, and distributing library and attorney deskbooks; assuring proper receipt of items, verifying that invoices correlate with deliveries, and preparing requests for payment.
  • Researching and resolving vendor issues associated with incorrect shipments, lapsed subscriptions, and missing items; proactively claiming materials not received on time.
  • Recording serial receipts in ILS acquisition module.
  • Collaborating with technical services staff on bulk orders, electronic research services assistance including user authentication and technical support and creation of onboarding documentation.
  • Coordinating with RLS Manager on subscription renewal review.
  • Responsible for local interlibrary loan services to firm researchers. Responding to requests from outside institutions.
  • Responsible for assigning or cancelling credentials for electronic services access for new hires and departing researchers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of computer systems and computer applications.
  • Ability to work quickly, prioritize work product, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, across offices, with members of the Library staff and Firm.
  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.

Job Requirements and Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree; this can be substituted for relevant experience in a special or academic library.
  • 1 to 3 years of library technical services experience preferred.
