DUTIES:

  1. Manages all library electronic resources including database subscriptions and web-based services.
  2. Acts as a vendor liaison for electronic databases and software; represents Merrimack Library on GMILCS subcommittees for the same purpose
  3. Attends meetings and/or participates on committees for managing consortium-sharedelectronic resources.
  4. Stays informed of innovations in the use of technology in library settings and recommends, plans, and implements those that are appropriate including digitalcollections,downloadable or streaming content, Makerspaces, mobile apps, social media, MOOCs, etc.
  5. Instructs and advises patrons and staff, either one-on-one or workshop setting, on research and effective use of library resources, basic computer applications,mobile devices,and emerging technologies.
  6. Troubleshoots computer and intranet issues for the staff; occasionally working with Head of Technical Services, GMILCS staff, or outside tech support.
  7. Troubleshoots computer issues for patrons.
  8. Coordinates timely software updates on staff and public computers
  9. Contributes content to the library’s social networking tools andwebsite.
  10. Creates digital content to improve library services,e.g. mobile applications
  11. Answers reference questions and assists the public in locating and interpreting traditional library resources as well as current and emerging technology resources, in person, by email or social media, and on the telephone.
  12. Explains library policies and procedures to the public.
  13. Plans, schedules, and runs Adult Services events as requested.
  14. Assists in selection and maintenance processes for the Non-Fiction and Reference Collections, and other collections as may be assigned.
  15. Assists with some aspects of Interlibrary Loan including verification, searches, requests, receipt, notification and return.
  16. Performs and assists in special projects as required.
  17. Participates in department and full staff meetings.
  18. Participates with Town of Merrimack Technology Committee as needed.
  19. Duties may vary at the discretion of the Head of Reference and Adult Services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to bend and stoop, to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, and to reach with hands and arms.
  2. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, go up and down stairs, and walk on a frequent basis.
  3. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is frequently required to lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds.
  4. While performing the essential functions of this job the incumbent is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
  5. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to view a computer screen and use a telephone, with or without adaptive technology.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. MLS from an ALA accredited school
  2. 2-3 years of experience in a public library setting managing electronic resources.
  3. Experience providing reference service to the public with proven success in communicating with database and software vendors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND DESIRABLE ABILITIES:

  1. Understands technology trends and developments relevant to public libraries and has the ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
  2. Fluent in the use and technology of desktop computers, laptops, eReaders, smart phones, tablets, etc. and able to communicate this information to library users.
  3. Working knowledge of 21st-century library organizations, methods, procedures, policies, goals and service.
  4. Familiarity with Drupal as a website platform.
  5. Commitment to excellence in public service.
  6. General knowledge of library materials.
  7. Ability to meet people easily and get along well with others.
  8. Ability to learn new skills and increase professional knowledge.
  9. Adaptability and dependability to work well in a team situation and flexibility in emergency staffing situations.
  10. Necessary attributes: mental curiosity, resourcefulness, initiative, good memory, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, maturity and decisiveness, oral and written communication skills in the English language.
