Director of Research, National Foreign Language Center, University of Maryland, College Park, MD

Position Summary:

  • Create surveys and organize the resulting data
  • Analyze the data and write reports on the findings
  • Help define the Center’s research agenda in conjunction with the Executive Committee
  • Write papers that achieve the Center’s research goals
  • Task and oversee a team of research graduate assistants
  • Create presentations of the research that NFLC staff can present at conferences
  • Contribute to the writing of grants and contract proposals for new work
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree
  • Superior writing skills
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to effectively delegate and manage the performance of a team of individuals
  • Intermediate or higher understanding of data aggregation and analysis
  • Intermediate or higher understanding of the social-science research genre
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency using Microsoft PowerPoint and/or Apple Keynote
  • Low-intermediate or higher proficiency using statistical software applications (e.g., SPSS, SAS)

Preferences:

  • Advanced degree in education, second language acquisition, or related field
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Evidence of previous publications

Salary: $70k to $90k
