Middle School Library/Media Specialist, North Reading Middle School, North Reading, MA

Job Description: Middle School Library/Media Specialist serving grades 6-8. Build school and teacher capacity in order to enhance students’ twenty-first century skills including information literacy, digital-age literacy, inventive thinking, high productivity, and effective communication. Foster a collaborative culture that promotes quality relationships, learning, creativity, innovation, and risk taking that improves student and adult learning. Promote the love of reading and exhibit a strong knowledge of literature appropriate to the middle school level. Maintain a supportive and engaging environment, in the physical and virtual library. Collaborate with and assist teachers and students to search out their informational needs, critically evaluate materials, and use technology to synthesize their findings into new knowledge. Collaborate with teachers to provide resources and activities for course, unit and lesson integration. Collaborate with digital learning specialists and other appropriate personnel to deliver assistance to teachers in integrating technology into their classrooms. Teach information literacy skills. Organize and manage the Middle School collection of print and electronic resources to promote teacher and student learning and assist the high school Library/Media specialist in the development of the shared library collections. Identify, plan and implement professional opportunities that address district-learning goals. Model continuous learning, keep current, and model effective strategies and practices. Actively participate in professional learning. Collaborate and communicate with building and district groups that relate to student learning. Assist with the development of a District Technology Plan. Participate as a member of the District Technology Team. Participate annually in the development of the summer reading program. Perform administrative duties associated with the maintenance of the library collection and management. Maintain the inventory of all the Middle School audio-visual equipment.

Job Requirements: Master’s degree preferred. Massachusetts license in Library/Media, grades K-12 required. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Attendance at the New Teacher Orientation on August 26 and 27, 2015 required.

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
