Digital Archives & Communications Intern, Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, Providence, RI

Rhode Island Council for the Humanities (RICH) seeks a Digital Archives & Communications Intern to create communications pieces and an online exhibit for the Council’s Digital Library to provide greater access to the history of the Council’s 40+ years of supporting the humanities.

The mission of the Council is to seed, support, and strengthen public history, cultural heritage, civic education, and community engagement by and for all Rhode Islanders.

Time Frame: June – August 2015; Temporary, Part-Time Internship, Weekly Hours Negotiable

Position Description:

The Digital Library, Communications and Development Intern will support efforts to trace thematic threads through the Humanities Council’s 40+ years of granting history in order to create an online exhibit for the Council’s Digital Library and communicate the Council’s impact in certain historical/cultural/civic areas. The project aims to allow the public to access the vast resources housed in the Council’s archives. In addition to working on the Archive, the intern will help create new grants features for web and social media platforms. This position reports to the Development & Communications Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research and create an online exhibit for the Council’s Digital Library
  • Accurately record and file the Archive’s accessions
  • Create social media posts promoting the digital archive and various grantee productions
  • Work with staff to help plan and coordinate several summer programmatic events

Position Requirements:

  • Archival research, familiarity with Dublin Core Metadata standards and Omeka.net Platform. Training could be made available.
  • Basic design/editing (Photoshop or Adobe InDesign).
  • B.A./ B.S. degree or 2+ years office and administrative experience
  • Technical Literacy: Mac OS X, Internet, Word Processing Tools, and Databases, Social Media,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collegially with fellow staff
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Interest in the humanities fields and nonprofit organizations
