Digital Learning Initiatives Librarian, Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT

Job Description:

The Digital Learning Initiatives Librarian will assist, instruct, and support University students and faculty with achieving their diverse learning objectives that require skills with digital and tangible library and other intellectual resources, including open educational resources. She/He will share with colleagues reference desk service, individual, group, and classroom instructional engagements, and other user services. He/She will work closely with the Director of the Jandrisevits Learning Center and the Director of Digital Learning to assist students with achieving their learning objectives that require writing and research skills, and with faculty with assessment skills and resources. She/He will serve as library liaison with the Departments of Communications and Media Studies, English, and Art and Design. This is an excellent opportunity for a new librarian with some teaching experience, and genuine engagement with teaching and learning.

Duties include:

  • Shares with the management and development the University’s information literacy instruction programs and services with the Business, Marketing, and Digital Literacy Librarian;
  • Shares in the development of subject-specific content, sessions, and courses, with primary responsibility for subject areas taught the Departments of Communications and Media Studies, English, and Art and Design.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and coordinates the development of tangible and digital library resources in cooperation with the Resource Development Librarian.
  • Shares assessment of the effectiveness of information literacy instruction, content, programs and resources.
  • Works closely with the Director of Digital Learning, and the Director of the Jandrisevits Learning Center with development of programs and services which will assist students with their achievement of diverse learning objectives that require conceptual and analytic research and writing skills.
  • Shares in the preparation and dissemination of instructional materials, manuals and guides for online, hybrid, and on-ground uses.
  • Compiles statistics, and reports instructional activities to the University Librarian.
  • Communicates effectively with staff concerning instructional activities and objectives, especially as regards writing;
  • Shares in the discussion and formulation of library policies and procedures.
  • Shares in the marketing of library services.
  • Cooperates with other librarians to provide service, collections and assistance according to library objectives.
  • Monitors developments in librarianship and higher education through attendance at meetings and workshops, membership in professional organizations and reading of professional journals.

Requirements:

  • MLS from an ALA accredited library school.
  • Familiarity with current developments in information literacy and the teaching of writing and research.
  • Familiarity with Blackboard and other digital instructional tools.
  • Confident classroom presence and the ability to work with faculty on a variety of instructional programs, including online programs.
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills.
  • New librarians are encouraged to apply; preference will be given to those with teaching experience, digital expertise, and commitment to the teaching and learning process.
