Collection Analysis Librarian, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA

Position Overview

Brandeis University seeks an innovative and forward thinking Collection Analysis Librarian to support effective decision making concerning acquisition, renewal, and retention of current and future Library collections by analyzing varied streams of collections-related data, presenting findings, and making recommendations. The Collection Analysis Librarian will support an evidence-based collections acquisition programs locally and in a shared print environment, and monitor local and vendor provided reports to identify collection related trends and patterns. The collaborative and user-focused librarian works closely with the library’s subject liaisons and Special Collections & Archives, personnel in other departments, and with colleagues from local and national consortia. 

Under the general supervision of the Associate University Librarian for Collections, the Collections Analysis Librarian contributes to the strategic allocation of Library resources for the acquisition of collections in traditional and emergent formats; and designs interpretive reports to best present and communicate how the Library judiciously develops its collections.

The Collection Analysis Librarian monitors funding allocations, and helps manage monographic approval plans. Through consultation with the library’s subject liaisons and Special Collections & Archives, personnel in other departments, and with colleagues from local and national consortia, the Librarian assists with the Library’s consortial resource selection and evaluation. 

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • ALA accredited MLS or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated experience using appropriate software applications and techniques to gather, manipulate, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data for varied audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of current collection management issues, practices, and trends.
  • Minimum three years’ relevant experience in an academic or research library in content acquisition and/or assessment
  • Demonstrated success in working effectively both independently and within teams
  • Experience working with sensitive or confidential data

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working in consortia
  • Aptitude for learning and adapting emerging technologies
  • Demonstrated skill with oral and written communications, sufficient for public speaking to a variety of audiences
  • Experience managing complex projects and leading project-oriented teams
  • Evidence of flexibility and initiative when working within a fast-paced, changing environment
