Media Specialist, Londonderry High School, Londonderry, NH

Qualifications:

  1. Valid certification as a Library Media Coordinator or Library Media Specialist from the New Hampshire Department of Education
  2. Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, Instructional Media or equivalent
  3. Demonstrated competency in technology integration; preferred experience in this area
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent and/or Building Principal

Supervises: Technology and Library Media Assistants, Student/Adult Volunteers

Job Goal: To provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the library media program is aligned with the mission, goals and objectives of the school and is an integral part of the learning/instructional program

Roles and Responsibilities

Facilitator of Student Learning:

As an instructional partner, the Media Specialist works with teachers and other educators to make connections between student information needs, curricula, learning outcomes and information/technology resources.

  • Advances and supports the integration of information technology into the instructional environment
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers in designing and presenting lessons that include 21st century information processing skills
  • Promotes the use of emerging learning tools and technology to extend student access to learning through such strategies as ‘Flipped Learning’ or ‘Distance Learning’
  • Active instruction of students in the areas of use of technology resources, information acquisition and evaluation in research, and the ethical use of information technology

Instructional Technology Development and Integration:

As a specialist in the area of information technology and 21st Century information processing skills, the Media Specialist provides leadership in the development of emerging and existing learning tools.

  • Promotes the use of emerging tools and technology to support instruction
  • Integrates the responsible use of information resources, tools, and technology for effective and creative teaching
  • Employs the use of technology to increase the level of student collaboration, clear communication, and the ability of students to access their learning beyond the school day
  • Functions as a primary advocate for responsible and respectful digital citizenship
  • Leads professional training and support for teachers and staff, primarily through the Tech Connect Center and through District professional development activities
  • Evaluate and communicate the applicability of emerging technologies

Program Administration

  • Works collaboratively with Library Media Specialists, teaching staff and administrators to develop library procedures and practices to support student learning
  • Supervision and evaluation of applicable support staff
  • Management of the Tech Connect space
  • Support the implementation of District initiatives, goals, and the Strategic Plan
  • Remain current in professional practices applicable to information technologies and educational research applicable to library media programs
  • Maintain active membership in applicable professional organizations in the areas of educational technology and library media

Terms of Employment: 187 days (teacher work year) plus 4 extended year days

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
