Library Director, Georgetown Peabody Library, Georgetown, MA

Who We Are:

The mission of the Georgetown Peabody Library is to be reflective and responsive to the recreational, informational, educational, and cultural needs of the residents and community of Georgetown, Massachusetts. As such it is a resource dedicated to fostering education and literacy, nurturing lifelong learning, encouraging personal growth and promoting cultural enrichment.  Built in 1909 with funds generously donated by George Peabody, the Georgetown Peabody underwent a significant expansion that was completed in 2007.

Job Description:

The Library Director, working a minimum of 35 hours per week, is the administrator of the library with responsibility for the overall operation, services and activities of the library including the supervision of library staff.  He or she maintains strong relationships with the public, community organizations, town boards and committees, and the schools. Further responsibilities include oversight and reporting of budget expenses, payroll, and library statistics as well as building maintenance and repairs.  The Library Director reports to and receives general direction from the Library Board of Trustees.

Required Experience and Education:

  • Master of Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program and a certificate in librarianship issued by the Board of Library Commissioners
  • Four years, preferred but not required, of professional library experience, including some administrative and supervisory experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with collection development policies, procedures, and trends
  • Excellent skills in supervision and interpersonal relations, written and oral communication and public relations
  • Demonstrated record of innovative library programming and outreach
  • Presentation, interpersonal and service skills
  • Ability to work independently with close attention to detail
  • A team player with the ability to work closely with the library staff, Board of Trustees, and the community

Compensation:

Compensation: $50,000 to $55,000, includes vacation and sick time
