Discovery Librarian, University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries, San Antonio, TX

The University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries seeks a Discovery Librarian to support and improve the user experience of our evolving, dynamic, and complex discovery environment.

The Discovery Librarian will coordinate the development of content access strategies with the goal of revealing the library’s extensive information resources and unique collections to our users.  The librarian will also work very closely with the Discovery Team, Web Team, library staff and users to optimize information access services around user workflows, focusing on discovery tools as well as the library website. This librarian will use their knowledge of metadata and discovery systems–together with active user testing on existing and potential discovery tools–to achieve the end goal of improving access to content, wherever it resides.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited program. Degree must be completed prior to start date.
  • One year of experience in an academic library setting.
  • Experience applying metadata standards such as MARC, RDA, and Dublin Core.
  • Knowledge of current models, practices, and tools used by academic libraries for access and discoverability of e-resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully within and across diverse groups.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability.

Preferred:

  • Experience conducting user testing.
  • Knowledge of library system architecture and technologies such as OpenURL and Shibboleth authentication.
  • Experience managing or creating metadata workflows.

Salary/Benefits:

Salary range: Negotiable; $43,104 – $62,508/Annualized; commensurate with qualifications and experience; plus an attractive State of Texas benefits package. This is a full-time, benefits eligible, A & P position.
