Project Archivist (1 year temporary), Worcester State University, Worcester, MA

Job Description:

  1. The Library at Worcester State University is seeking an experienced, energetic and collaborative professional archivist to help organize and process two special collections in our Archives.
  2. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Archivist processes and enhances the Worcester State University archival collection, and the Dennis Brutus special collection.

Responsibilities:

  1. Processing and organization
  2. Conducts an appraisal of existing material within the two collections
  3. Produces a needs assessment report
  4. Surveys the collections to determine workflows and create intellectual organization and description levels for the collection
  5. Conducts a preservation assessment
  6. Creates preservation, access, and digitization guidelines
  7. Creates a new Collection Development Policy
  8. Writes Finding Aids for each collection
  9. Trains and supervises hourly student assistants; coaches and mentors student assistants
  10. Appraises and processes new materials according to archival standards
  11. Provides bi-weekly oral reports to the Project Manager on the progress of the project
  12. Works collaboratively with a team of students to arrange and describe collections in accordance with current archival standards
  13. Organizes and completes yearbook digitization of Worcester State yearbooks: 1935-2014 (working with Digital Commonwealth’s program)

Requirements:

  1. Graduated with an archival management concentration in an MLS or MA-history program
  2. With a minimum 3 years’ experience in processing archival records
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of archival best practices to perform archival functions such as arrangement, description and preservation
  4. Effective organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
  5. Ability to lift and move 40 pounds.

Preferred:

  1. Certified archivist
  2. Digitization project experience.

Additional Information:

>This is a one year non-benefited position working 20 hours per week.
