Position Summary:

Northeastern University welcomes applications for the position of Online Learning Librarian. Under the general direction of the Head, Research and Instruction Services, the successful candidate will provide leadership in the design, implementation, support and assessment of the Library’s array of learning tools for online instruction and research assistance. This position will work closely with key online learning units on campus, including The Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning through Research, the online instruction division of the College of Professional Studies, Academic Technology Services, as well as key faculty, to integrate methodologies and digital technologies into the Library’s online learning and support activities. In collaboration with other Research and Instruction librarians, the Online Learning Librarian will lead the design and creation of tools and experiences to enhance the Library’s support for online learning, and work with other Library units, e.g. Archives and Special Collections, The Digital Media Commons Studio to support the development of those units’ own online tutorials and learning objects. The successful candidate also will have the responsibility to create, promote and showcase instructional applications of technologies through media, outreach, workshops and consultations. 

Other responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a member of the Library’s subject liaison team in providing assistance to faculty and students in respect of their library research needs in an assigned discipline (preferably in education or the social sciences)
  • Working with faculty on the integration of Library collections and services into their online courses
  • Collection development and information access in assigned subject

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited program and second graduate degree in education, or the social sciences, with an emphasis on online learning. At least three years demonstrated success working with online learning technologies in a collaborative environment. Effective communication and interpersonal skills organizational and time management skills essential for forming strong working relationships with both key Library departments and a number of strategic units at the University level and supporting the research needs of University faculty, staff, students, alumni, and appropriate visitors.
