Young Adult Services Coordinator, The Jones Library, Amherst MA

Duties/Description:

Responsible for coordinating and managing young adult services, programs, and activities in support of overall Youth Services Department work; provides customer service at Youth Services desk. Works under the general supervision of the Head of Youth Services. Trains and supervises teen volunteers. Major Duties 1. Develops, promotes, and implements programs for young adults. Coordinates programming with other staff as needed. Creates flyers and posters to promote young adult programming. Plans and organizes YA summer reading program. Maintains statistics of attendance at programs and other activities. Promotes YA services with visits to schools and other venues; uses technology and social media to promote YA services. 2. Responsible for space-planning for young adult services. 3. Provides young adult reader’s advisory services, organizes book groups and discussions, and promotes YA collection by creating reading lists and displays. May be asked to participate in YA collection development. 4. Manages work of teen volunteers in Youth Services Department. Facilitates meetings and coordinates services of Teen Advisory Board. 5. Charges, discharges, and renews materials. Reviews patron accounts for unpaid bills and overdue fines and takes appropriate action. Collects fines for overdue loans and payments for billed items. 6. Provides assistance with use of the computer catalog and library borrowing and search programs. 7. Sorts and re shelves returned materials. Evaluates materials for physical damage. 8. Registers new borrowers. 9. Maintains library security. Advises patrons on building regulations and alerts the appropriate staff person to disruptive public behavior. Participates in library closing procedures. 10. Works on special projects and substitutes in other departments, as assigned. May be asked to work nights and weekends. 11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Associates Degree plus at least one year library work experience; or any equivalent combination of related education and experience. Experience and genuine enjoyment in working with young adults; general knowledge or interest in young adult literature. Working knowledge of computer operations, current technology, and social media; skill in operation of listed equipment. Ability to effectively work with the public in a friendly, courteous manner; ability to communicate effectively; ability to work with persons of diverse ethnic backgrounds; ability to handle stressful situations.

Salary:

$29,000-$46,000 annually prorated to 32.5 hours with full prorated benefits package
