POSITION: REFERENCE & YOUNG ADULT LIBRARIAN – Part Time, Bedford Public Library
SALARY: $19.02 – $25.52 per hour
TYPICAL DUTIES:
The Bedford Public Library seeks a friendly, professional librarian to work part time at our busy reference desk and coordinate young adult services. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
? Assisting patrons of all ages with print and electronic resources, including online databases, the Polaris online catalog, and the Library’s eBook services.
? Providing readers advisory.
? Assisting patrons with interlibrary loans.
? Participating in collection development.
? Develop and oversee young adult programming (including a Teen Summer Reading program).
? Young adult outreach to Bedford High School.
The part-time position will require approximately 12 hours per week, including one night per week and weekends in a rotation, including Sundays.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have proficiency with technology, including social media, tablet computers, eBook readers, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of the Polaris ILS is helpful. Applicants must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and sensitively when responding to patron queries. The ability to multitask and complete long-term tasks, while responding to queries at the Reference Desk, is essential. Knowledge of young adult literature and experience developing programs for, and serving, high school age library users is helpful. MLS or MLS candidate who has completed their reference coursework is preferred.
