Librarian Fellows Program, Emory University Libraries & Information Technology Division, Atlanta GA

Emory University Libraries & Information Technology Division announces the Librarian Fellows Program
for 2014. We invite applications from graduates with master’s degrees in information studies or
library/information science awarded between May 2013 and June 2014. Fellows will be appointed to two-year term positions with start dates that may occur between summer and early fall 2014.

Emory University is one of the top-twenty national universities in the U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s
Best Colleges.” Additionally, Emory is thirteenth in the country for best values among private universities in
the 2010 Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine. The university is recognized internationally for its outstanding  liberal arts college, superb professional schools and one of the Southeast’s leading health care systems. Emory and its environment is a rich setting in which to launch your career.

Fellows in this program are able to develop expertise, leadership and project management skills in placements related to the libraries’ three strategic goal areas:
• Digital Innovations – in services, resources and scholarship;
• Special Collections – featuring services and resources for research and teaching in modern literature,
African American history and culture, southern history and culture; and
• Customer-centered Library – creating distinctive research environments that integrate print and digital
resources and enable connections among users, communities, resources, and tools.

The Fellows Program will be the first professional position for a new graduate. The framework for the
Fellows experience includes dual tracks; that is, the Fellow will initially be a member of a primary work team
and, during the first year, will also begin work on special projects and initiatives in areas outside of the
primary area. A range of special projects and initiatives are underway and will provide the Fellows with
opportunities to learn about and contribute to new developments in research library services. Primary work
assignments for this year are targeting two key areas: 1) digital services in the Emory Center for Digital
Scholarship (ECDS); or 2) research services in the Manuscripts, Archives, and Rare Book Library (MARBL).

A fellow in the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship (ECDS) will have opportunities to develop technical
expertise as well as leadership and project coordination skills through collaborative work in areas such as
digital publishing, data curation and preservation, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and digital
pedagogy. The fellow’s work will also involve the development of digital services for faculty and students.

Fellows in MARBL Research Services will play a key role in the ongoing work of making MARBL collections
accessible to a broad range of users, and providing programs and services that bring MARBL resources alive. Fellows in MARBL Research Services will have the opportunity to contribute to an expanding outreach initiative connecting MARBL collections to various communities and to assist in MARBL’s ongoing instruction program. Fellows will collaborate with MARBL administrative and curatorial staff, as well as staff from the Education and Outreach and External Affairs departments of Woodruff Library to connect MARBL resources with the Emory community, the larger Atlanta community, and visiting and virtual scholars.
