Public Services Late Night Coordinator (Part Time), Brandeis University, Waltham MA

Library & Technology Services (LTS) at Brandeis University is looking for a Public Services Late Night Coordinator – Part Time.  This position will provide excellent customer service to the Brandeis University communities and coordinate services to users at an integrated service desk and within the library building.  Oversees desk and building operations during late night, early morning and weekend hours. Total annual hours are based on a half-time position and half-time prorated benefits. Late evening, early morning, and weekend shifts required.

Specifically this position supervises the integrated service desk and operations throughout the building that result in successful user experience during evening, overnight and weekend hours. Responsible for oversight and assistance with user interactions at the desk and beyond, such as basic reference, assistance with key online resources and operation of a variety of new and legacy equipment used in research and resource access. 

Additional responsibilities include assisting with managing, training, assigning tasks, and developing work schedules for student workers.  Manages building access and security during evenings and weekends.  Communicates and ensures respectful enforcement of policies, procedures, and rules while ensuring strong customer service and safety of users and staff. Understands emergency procedures and acts as first responder to issues within the building.  

Works as a member of a collaborative team and will be required to perform all functions within the department such as circulation, basic reference, shelving and other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

-Must be able to work a flexible schedule consisting of late evening, early morning, weekend shifts and some holidays plus some overnight work during exam period.  Total annual hours are based on a half-time position and half-time prorated benefits. Schedule will vary based on Academic Calendar.

-Previous library or customer-service work experience.

-Familiarity with automated library system or similar system and proficiency with computing and productivity software (word processing, spreadsheets etc.).

-Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

-Strong service orientation and work style that is approachable and personable

-Must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision; willingness to work as part of a team. 

-Commitment to service and professional development

Education – Bachelor’s Degree (Some experience may be substituted for education)

Work Experience 1-3 years of total work-related experience  

Supervisory Experience 1-3 years

 

Preferred Qualifications

-Background in an academic library environment or librarianship preferred but not required.

-Strong customer service background.

-Experience working overnight positions.
