Pre-Professional Librarian Internship, North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources, Cambridge MA

Primary Purpose:  The NCC (North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources), an international educational non-profit, seeks a library-student intern for the remainder of AY 2013-14 (with possible extension for the summer of 2014). A key function of this position is to help the NCC to develop and update materials on NCC’s large LibGuides based Website.  The Intern will help update existing components of the Website, will research and create new content and links, and will work online with NCC’s large group of librarian and faculty volunteers.  This internship may be on a paid or volunteer basis.  Paid interns must be US citizens or have a valid visa permitting part time employment. 

 

Based at the NCC headquarters in Cambridge, MA much of the work will be done remotely, telecommuting to the headquarters and among the NCC’s international constituency online.  This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the NCC, and will work closely with the Webmaster and bilingual staff.   The hours are very flexible and can accommodate a student’s schedule. 

 

Required Qualifications: Familiarity with the LibGuides-CampusGuides platforms, experienced in social networking systems including Facebook and Twitter, experience with image creation tools e.g. Photoshop.  Excellent writing skills, fluency in English language, some Japanese language and knowledge of Japan needed, familiarity with e-resources, good team-working skills, ability to work with minimum supervision, and attention to detail are needed.

 

Desirable Qualifications: Japanese language fluency and database management highly desirable, as would be non-profit and/or fund-raising experience, and experience living in Japan and/or East Asia.
