Our 300-acre campus sits on the banks of the Merrimack River and is just one hour from Boston and the mountains and seacoast of New Hampshire. Southern New Hampshire University’s traditional campus is seeking a part-time Reserves Coordinator. As a member of Shapiro Library’s Access Services staff, the Reserves Coordinator oversees all aspects of the Reserves workflow, ensuring access to Reserves materials by working with University faculty, the University Bookstore, and Library Technical Services staff to obtain, process, and organize needed resources.
This position requires the ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:
- Supervises the Information Desk during designated shifts and assists users in person and by phone using excellent communication skills.Answers directional, informational, and basic reference questions. Directs users to Reference Desk as needed
- Responsible for ensuring efficient and exemplary customer service to library patrons in all aspects of Access Services, including resolving complex transactions, explaining policies, making decisions regarding exceptional circumstances, and reporting library issues to the Access Services Librarian and/or other appropriate Library or University staff
- Assists in training and supervision of student employees in Access Services functions and capacities; in excellent customer service; in communicating value of Library spaces, services, and resources; and in basic troubleshooting of Library technology.Assigns tasks to student employees as needed
- Is designated essential staff and as such, is required to report to work even when university classes are cancelled and offices are closed
- Assumes responsibility as needed for the safety and security of students, equipment, and materials in the building, following established Library and University procedures
- Opens the Library building Sunday through Thursday mornings. Ensures Library is ready to serve users at opening time
- Ensures access to Reserve materials by working with University faculty and Library Technical Services staff to obtain material, and by identifying appropriate textbook purchases from the University Bookstore. Organizes all aspects of the Reserves workflow, including obtaining, processing, and tracking use of Reserves materials
- Works with Access Services Librarian and Dean of the Library to gather, distribute, and interpret Library statistics on Access Services transactions, building use, collection use, and other Library activity
- Assists the Interlibrary Loan and OCLS Coordinator in borrowing and lending Library materials in both electronic and print formats for the University community. Assists in maintaining regular statistics on Off-Campus Library Services
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1+ to 2 years experience and a Bachelors degree
- Demonstrated successful experience working with the public using strong customer service skills
- Ability to work and adapt in a changing environment
- Supervisory or management experience
- Familiarity with academic culture
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Excellent oral and written communication
Work Hours:
Sunday 9:30am to 2:30pm and Monday through Thursday 7:00am to 12pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed.
